Do you know that if your hard drive crashed right now, could you restore your data? With BacTracs Remote Backup you can!

THE RISK

I believe everyone agrees it is vital that you have a backup of your files. It takes only a second for a lightning strike to wipe away data that has taken you days, months and years to create. If you’ve been around computers, you know or have heard of computer hard drives crashing and having to be replaced. Have you ever popped in a floppy diskette and it will not read? What if some of your backup files were on that diskette? It happens. OK, so you do perform your daily backups, you’re smart, but where are they right now? In the desk or cabinet near the computer? What if, God forbid, a fire destroys your PC and backups? Thieves do steal. Could you replace all that data? If so, how long would it take to re-key, how many hours, days, months? Would your business survive? J & G Plus, LLC has a remote backup system called BacTracs that can compress and encrypt your data files and using the Internet, safely store your data off-site and this is done automatically. Then if you need them, at any time, you can easily restore your files. So as long as you are on the Internet, BacTracs can backup your files remotely and securely. Talk about peace of mind.

“I’ll back you up”

Automated protection for your most valuable business asset.

Are you protecting your most valuable business asset?

In today’s business world you can insure against just about any catastrophe. You can replace your stock, your premises, your cars and even your hardware almost overnight. But what would happen if you lost all the data on your computers, backups and all?

Think about it for a minute… data such as your accounts receivable, accounts payable, stock counts, work in progress, quotes, client /patient and supplier databases and historical data that you have built up over the years…all gone! It only takes a second…gone! Would your business survive?

Many small businesses put their livelihood on the line every night and don’t realize it.

Accidents DO happen…

Lightning strikes. Buildings burn. Flooding occurs. Thieves steal. Computer viruses inflict destruction.  Hard-drives crash, Backups can, and do, fail. Yes, you could replace your computer system tomorrow. But how long would it take to re-enter all the business data that your very livelihood depends on? Days? Weeks? Months? What would be the cost? Do you have the systems in place and the paper trail that would allow you to do it?  What if you couldn’t replace your data? Wait...really think about that question!

A typical business computer would probably have data such as invoices, tax details, patient records, customer accounts, creditor accounts, stock, work in progress, customer databases, sales history, quotes, various projects, various scans (.bmp and .jpg) etc. How long would it take to replace all this data? What would it cost you in time and money? What would be the cost in lost business?

Did you know that it takes around 20 days and costs thousands of dollars to re-type just 20MB (megabytes) of sales and accounting data?

THE SOLUTION

BacTracs has the data protection solution for small to medium size organizations.

Remote Backups work basically like regular tape backups, with one important difference. Instead of sending data to a tape drive or other media attached to the computer, Remote Backup sends it over regular telephone lines (DSL, Cable or dedicated circuit) to another computer safely off-site. It does this (usually) at night while the business is closed and nobody is using the computer. This automates the backup process ensuring that critical data is always secure and available. BacTracs Remote Backup Services is an important part of a responsible data protection plan. It can make sure your business is safe from the kind of catastrophic failure that can destroy your records so easily.

BacTracs Remote Backup Services allows you to protect your critical data against an unforeseen catastrophic loss by using a secure offsite facility. It eliminates the human error associated with all manual data protection systems. Problems such as: when backups are rushed through without proper verification, when backups are left in a drawer next to the computer only to be wiped out in the same catastrophe, when no backups are made at all, when important new files are added or existing critical files are updated which are not part of your regular backup plan or backup routine, when you find that you have been backing up corrupted files because an undetected virus in your system has been destroying your data files. Backups are done on schedule, not forgotten nor skipped due to lack of time or being too busy.

Here’s how it works

(Amount of time depends on the amount of data being backed up.)

– Your computer “wakes up” and prepares a compressed backup, which it then encrypts for security.

– Your computer activates its modem, calls BacTracs’ host computer. Computers exchange accounting information. Your computer then sends its daily backup to the host computer by modem.

– Backup is finished. Your computer goes back to sleep. An encrypted copy of all your critical data files is now safely off-site in our secure storage facility.

Backups are encrypted for complete security

Is it possible for someone to slip one of your backups (tape, disk or CD) into their pocket and take it to your competitor?  These backups are not generally encrypted, so anyone could read them and gain access to your client database, billing records, payroll, tax information, and everything else on your computer. BacTracs Remote Backup Services uses a very sophisticated compression and encryption system. A copy of your data is compressed and encrypted before it leaves your computer and cannot be accessed by anyone, not even us, because only you have the encryption “key”.  The key is not transmitted with the archive. These archives cannot be viewed, decrypted, or used in any way without the key.

Multiple copies of files

Redundant copies of files are stored using a sophisticated version control system. This is much too important to overlook. The general definition of “proper” backups requires redundancy. That is, one must keep multiple copies of the same files at different points in their development, called versions. An example would be if you have a different copy of each backed-up file for each day of the week, one for each week in the month, and one for each month in the year. Further, you should be able to easily restore any of your files up to any given point in time. Our Remote Backup service has such an easy to use version control system.

Peace of Mind – There will be a new business day knowing your data is secure.

Installation is simple. Setting up takes only a few minutes. Once completed, our Remote Backup Service is completely automatic. You can just forget it’s there. Rest comfortably in the knowledge that your computer will automatically back up all the files you want, as often as you want, without the need for any intervention.  BacTracs Remote Backup Services eliminates the expense and maintenance cost of tape drive, the need to purchase backup servers, the inherent weaknesses of disk or tape storage solutions, such as tapes and disks being corrupted, misplaced, damaged, not removed off-site or the backup process being overlooked.  BacTracs Remote Backup Services is just that…a cost effective system designed to help ensure the continuation of your business by protecting your critical data in the event of a disaster.

Fast Data Recovery

With BacTracs Remote Backup Services, users can restore all or part of their data, quickly and efficiently 24 hours a day.

Data Archiving Option

BacTracs Remote Backup Services provides a CDROM Archiving service for businesses that want a permanent archive for their records. This optional service allows you to choose to have a CD created of your backup data and shipped to you.

The Cost of Backup

Let’s say that you currently have someone backing up your accounting system each day on disk or tape drives. The backup process, including proper verification may take a total of 15 minutes. A person being paid $10 per hour is costing you $2.50 per day in order to do the backup. That equates to around $50 per month which is still cheap insurance considering the risk if it is not done. However, you may still have not backed up any updated critical files such as databases, quotes, projects, scans, spreadsheets, important correspondence, etc. How will the person responsible to backups know what is required to be backed up on the day?

You may be surprised to find that BacTracs Remote Backup Services backs up all your data files and any other files you choose to nominate, at the end of each day, automatically, reliably and probably for much less than what it currently costs you to do manually.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I already have a tape drive and do all my backups. Why would I need Remote Backup Services?

A. Unfortunately, most small businesses do not do proper backups, even though they may have a tape drive. Some people think they are doing backups correctly, then, when they really need them, find out to their dismay that their tapes are useless. Virtually none take their tapes off-site. Many people who use Remote Backup Services have tape drives and use them. They like the added security of knowing their critical files are safe.

Q. Won’t you have access to my company records?

A. No, your files are very securely encrypted before they leave your office. Only you have the password. We cannot access your files.

Q. Do I have to install a special phone line?

A. No, our system uses any kind of existing phone line.

Q. What do I have to do, how much trouble will this system be for me?
